Macy's is closing 66 stores in the US, with four in Michigan, as part of a strategy to focus on more profitable locations.

The closures are part of Macy's "Bold New Chapter" strategy, which was announced in February 2024. The reorganization, the company revealed at the time, involved closing 150 stores nationwide within three years and a pivot to a greater focus on luxury sales.

The moves are a “part of the Bold New Chapter strategy, which was announced in February 2024,” the company said.

The department store has reportedly been struggling with declining sales, which has been affecting the wider sector for years.

Macy’s on Thursday announced that it would be closing 66 “non-go-forward” stores in the United States, including its store at the South Hill Mall in Puyallup. Other Washington locations include its Kitsap Mall store and its Redmond furniture store.

Four stores in Southern California, including one in Westminster and another in Downtown L.A., will close by March.
