Are you a frequent user of the Google Home app? Two new features are rolling out now to upgrade your smart home in a couple of key ways.

Starting in the Public Preview, the Google Home app is finally adding support for the Nest Protect, as well as Matter-certified smart locks.

Owners of Google's second-gen Nest Protect smoke detector had been waiting years for the device to make the leap to the Google Home app.

Initially, Google made that API available to only a few select partners for early testing. Companies like Nanoleaf, ADT, and LG have been part of that initial effort, and now this week at CES 2025 Google shares that it’s opening the Home API to public preview.
