A stampede outside a centre distributing rice to citizens in southern Nigeria killed 22 people, authorities said Sunday, the latest in a spate of such incidents in Africa's most populous country.
Several children have died following a stampede during a school holiday fair in Nigeria. Authorities said the incident happened Wednesday at the Islamic High School, in Basorun, Oyo State.
Nigeria raised the death toll from a stampede outside a centre handing out rice to citizens in the southern town of Okija to 22, police said on Sunday.
