As tens of thousands seek shelter from the wildfires ravaging Los Angeles, the short-term rental site Airbnb has made free rooms available to evacuees and major hotels are extending discounted rates to displaced residents.

Airbnb.org has offered free, temporary housing to people displaced by several natural disasters, including Hurricanes Helene and Milton, and the war in Ukraine. Los Angeles residents in need can request temporary housing by filling out an intake form with 211 LA.

In these cases, hosts and guests can cancel eligible stays without consequence and receive full refunds (or partial refunds for trips that have already started and require guests to evacuate before their official check-out time). Airbnb's customer service team is available for help rebooking stays.

The Ranch at Laguna Beach is offering 50 percent off and waiving parking and resort fees for anyone in an official Cal Fire evacuation zone. Hilton Irvine Orange County Airport is offering discounts to people and animals that have left their homes.
